After completing an MA at Cambridge University, Daniel went on to train in acupuncture at the College of Integrated Chinese Medicine in both the TCM and Five Element constitutional styles of acupuncture. He has also trained as a practitioner of Tuina (Chinese remedial massage) and is a qualified life coach. Daniel is co-editor of the Journal of Chinese Medicine and chairs the British Acupuncture Council Editorial Committee.

In 2004 he founded the charity World Medicine in response to the asian Tsunami, facilitating acupuncturists and other CAM practitioners travelling to places around the world where their skills are needed. Daniel lectures at various colleges of Chinese medicine, and is an enthusiastic practitioner of taiji, qigong and meditation, which form the foundation for his understanding of Chinese medicine.
